FISD Executive Committee Elections
All FISD members are invited to nominate candidates to fill 12 positions on the FISD Executive Committee (EC) for two-year terms which begin in January 2019. Positions are open for representatives in each of the three FISD constituency areas: exchanges, vendors (data, software, hardware, services), and consumer firms. View the current EC list. Please submit one nomination for your company with the campaign statements for both executives who will be representing your firm. Nominations will be accepted until November 26, then voting will begin on November 29. Nominate candidates from your firm now.

Volunteers Needed for Data Provider Evaluation Pilot
The FISD Executive Committee has approved a Pilot Program that will enable Data Providers (e.g. exchanges, traditional data vendors, index providers, etc.) to receive feedback related to their communications and product management programs.

The Data Provider Evaluation Program (DPEP) will enable Data Providers to review confidential feedback from members of the FISD’s Service Level & Communications Working Group. The feedback relates to how well a Data Provider adheres to the suggested recommendations contained in the Group’s Best Practices document.

The Working Group encourages more exchanges and Data Providers to volunteer for feedback and more FISD members to provide feedback (in a quick easy-to-use survey). Don’t hesitate to contact FISD staff liaison Nick Merritt for additional information.

Upcoming Public FISD FIA Prep Course
Waters Technology is holding a prep course for the FISD FIA exam in London November 20-22. Over three full days the trainers will cover the entire FISD FIA syllabus. Book directly with Waters Technology to arrange for your seat. Participants in recognized training courses such as this one (view the full list of trainers recognized by FISD) receive a $150 discount when registering for the FISD FIA exam.

Brexit – implications for market data working group
Brexit is never far from the mainstream news in the UK these days. However, on the afternoon of Monday Oct 29th, members will be getting together to discuss and identify how Brexit might affect any of us in our market data roles – be we an Exchange, a Data Vendor, a Consumer or anyone in our ecosystem. There are limited seats available but a dial in will be provided. If anyone wishes to attend in person or dial in they should contact David Anderson.

Study Group Forming on Machine-readable Invoices
FISD is forming a Study Group to discuss the opportunity for facilitating greater use of machine-readable invoices within the industry.  While this issue originated in the Consumer Constituent Group, we are interested in identifying other members who would like to engage on this topic.  Contact Tom Davin if you have questions or would like to be involved.

FISD Reads 2.0 - Pick the Q4 Book
Thanks to those of you who gave us feedback about FISD Reads. (For those not in the know, FISD has a virtual book club focused on helping you learn from some of the world’s best leaders.) We heard you, and we’ve made some changes:

  • No set meeting time. We’re staying on LinkedIn (join the FISD Reads LinkedIn group here), but we’ll use it like a message board rather than a chat. This will give people more flexibility about when they can participate.
  • Exchange ideas while you read. With a message board you can dip in and out of, you don’t have to rush through the book to be done by a certain date. Share your thoughts and questions as they arise.
  • No time to read the whole book? No problem. You can still benefit from the fact that FISD has this program. Short summaries of the most crucial takeaways from each FISD Reads selection will be posted on the FISD website. Click here to read the Two-Minute Takeaways from the Q3 pick, Powerful by Patty McCord.

FISD also needs your help to choose the next book for FISD Reads. These are the four possibilities:

  • Thinking in Bets: Making Smarter Decisions When You Don’t Have All the Facts by Annie Duke
  • Principles: Life and Work by Ray Dalio
  • Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World by General Stanley McCrystal
  • Measure What Matters: How Google, Bono, and the Gates Foundation Rock the World with OKRs by John Doerr

Click the 'Take the Survey' button below  to pick your book of choice now! A quick cheat sheet about the books is posted on the FISD website here. Want even more info? Contact Hope Wilkes.
